They may look impressive at first glance when you fight them, but they're not actually all that great. They have high base Strength (5) and low Magic (1) stats, but their growths are reversed with low strength growth (0.7) and high magic growth (1.5). If you end up getting any you're better off selling them at the market.

There is a forest tile event involving a large sized Magic Deer. You can ignore it and be on your way, attack it for a battle involving other units (which will get you ManaHerbs, which permanently increase max mana), attempt to tame it outright if you have a Tamer in your party, or try to win it over by offering 2 food.
