Upon defeat the boss drops mushroom essence and some special armor. Upon the first defeat you also unlock the mushroom farm, a cheap house upgrade that provides lots of food.Also it should be noted, that any boss fusion or offspring loose the giant trait, so if you wish to obtain a boss in all its glory you need to capture them.

The boss itself has questionable use as a unit, it can pretty much solo the game, but it will also cause harm to your party members and the MC with its passive and skills.
